Pregnancy Q & A
What should I do if I think I am pregnant?
If you've gotten a positive pregnancy test, first of all — congratulations. Next, you'll want to contact Davda Medical Group for a urine or blood test to confirm your happy news.
During your first appointment at Davda Medical Group, Dr. Davda asks you the date of your last period. She uses this information to calculate your due date. Dr. Davda asks if you're already taking prenatal vitamins already. If you're not, she prescribes ones for you to take throughout your pregnancy.
Next, expect Dr. Davda to go over your medical history, perform a physical exam, and suggest a series of lab tests. She may recommend an ultrasound, which is conveniently available on-site. She walks you through the schedule of visits to expect as your pregnancy progresses.
How will I feel during my pregnancy?
Morning sickness is, of course, a common pregnancy symptom. More than 60% of pregnant women experience feelings of nausea in the morning and at night. You may also experience these common symptoms:
- Lack of energy
- Tiredness
- Heartburn
- Indigestion
- Constipation
- Trouble sleeping
In some cases, pregnancy symptoms may be a sign of a possible issue. For example, a severe headache in your second or third trimester may be a sign of high blood pressure or preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication.
If you ever have questions about your symptoms, Davda Medical Group is here to help.
What tests happen during pregnancy?
Dr. Davda recommends the following tests at different points of your pregnancy:
- Complete blood count
- Blood type
- Urine culture
- Hepatitis B and C
- Rubella
- Rh antibody test
This is no means an exhaustive list. You also can expect Dr. Davda to recommend ultrasound exams at specific times in your pregnancy.
What are the benefits of a pregnancy ultrasound?
You can expect to have one, if not more, ultrasound exams during your pregnancy. Your ultrasound exam reveals important information about your pregnancy, such as:
- An estimate of the baby’s gestational age
- Their position, heart rate, and movements
- An estimate of their size and weight
- Location of the placenta
- The amount of amniotic fluid
- Presence of multiples
You also can tell if you’re having a girl or boy during an ultrasound in your second trimester.
